E-Tax Woes

Dear Australian Tax Office,

Seriously guys, What the fuck? This is the fifth year that you've had e-tax and you still haven't worked out that the load on the servers is going to be big on the last week of October? Seriously? Are you a bunch of idiots? BUY MORE SERVERS. You obviously don't have the resources to handle the load. And really, if you are going to have the servers down all the time so that whenever someone tries to prefill their returns they just get an error, how about fucking checking if they ever managed to download their data before locking them out of the prefill service for downloading their data more than 5 times. HELLO!!I downloaded my information successfully 0 times, why the fuck are you locking me out "as a security measure and precaution". Do the guys who write this Software even know what they were doing or have any qualifications?

When I call this e-tax help desk number they better answer my call and unlock my account quickly and easily, but from my current e-tax experience i don't have high hopes.

Well they managed to answer my call quickly only to inform me that it's a 24 hour lockout and I just have to wait. Why the hell didn't it say that in e-tax? Also it doesn't solve my problem, I'm still going to have to wait till some ungodly hour of the morning when everyone is asleep before trying again on Thursday morning or I'll just get locked out again.

Dear Steve Jobs,

Why do you make it so fucking hard for me to quickly get a new song on my iPhone? This morning I had a spare 10 minutes before I needed to leave to catch my train and I thought I would take the opportunity to put a new song on my iPhone. So I opened my new song which loaded it in to iTunes, so far so good. I then connected my iPhone to my mac and clicked sync. Now why the fuck does it do the backup first!? I backed up yesterday, this is not an important operation, it should happen last. Luckily you can just skip the backup so not too much time lost, now just sync my song and I'll be on my way. Oh no what's this, you want to copy the new apps on my phone to the mac? Before syncing my song and not letting me cacel the operation? You're fucking shitting me. That's the most retarted workflow I've ever encountered. So now I'm waiting for it to copy the apps and it just kinda stops on one... Seemingly not doing anything. I'm sure it would have finished eventually but I was out of time and already late for my train. So now I have to spend the whole day not listening to the song I wanted to. Lucky Queensland transport is as good at making their trains run on time as you are at syncing so I didn't miss my train.

Today I heard an ad for Crazy John's mobile phones. Or maybe someone was just talking about it, I can't remember. Anyway I made some off hand joke about his untimely death and was informed that it was "too soon" to make jokes. So my question is, how long do I have to wait? I've seen hundreds of jokes and pictures about Steve Erwin, and I started seeing these months ago, so the acceptable wait period can't be too long. I'd appreciate your comments on this issue.

Oh and if you were wondering what my comment was, it was just something about that if you name your company after your status you should have to update it when your status changes.

Well I was going to write a happy new year post.

Labor is going to filter the internet for all Australians so we only get to see what they want us to see. Oh sure, we can get unfiltered internet, but it's opt-out, not opt-in. I.E. filtered by default. And to get it unfiltered who knows what loops you are going to have to jump through... and what lists you'll be put on for them to keep a close eye on. Goodbye freedom of speech in this country.

So to anyone who didn't vote Labor, have a great new year.

Still don't know who to vote for tomorrow? It's easy. Most people don't mind what the liberals have been doing the last 11 years, you know, the whole highest employment, good economic situation thing. They are just sick of John Howard. However you really shouldn't let your hatred of a single person who's party does good make you risk it all on an unknown quantity. I mean lets be honest, the only reason everyone seems to be happy to vote for Rudd is because his policies are nearly the same as the coalition. If you really hate Johhny that much suck it up and wait a year or so for the switch to Costello, the man who reversed the 90 Billion dollar debt left by the Keating Government. If anyone knows how to run a government from an economic standpoint it's him.

As for the Senate well that's even easier. Vote 1 the secular party. That's Group W if you are in Queensland. Sure they don't have the people or popularity to run the country at the moment, but you can't argue that they don't have the most sensible not "fake" morally biased policies.

What do I mean by "fake" morals? Well that's a whole other issue I'll get in to one day. Just vote W (in QLD).

While once again pondering the very nature of the universe I came across the a question which sadly neither I nor yahoo!xtra answers could answer.

Warning: If you don't want to spend hours in deep thought I suggest you stop reading now.

The question? Who is the hottest chick that was born in 1972. Initially it seems like it should be an easy question. Just whittle down the people in your brain until... Oh My God. That's right. How do you decide between those two?! For those of you less enlightened I'll make it easy for you so you don't have to spend hours whittling. Alyssa Milano and Geri Halliwell. I just can't come to a conclusion. Perhaps it's one of those questions that could never be answered. Maybe it's one of those questions that SHOULD never be answered. I don't know. However I open my post comments to all your opinions in the hope that one day this mystery of the universe can be solved.

Leopard Review - Unbiased fanboy free version.

Can anyone be completely unbiased on a subject? I doubt it. But here is my completely unbiased review of Leopard.

First of all it looks prettier than tiger. So that's a plus. Time machine looks pretty cool, I haven't tested it much but yeah what I've seen is cool. Safari 3 is much better than Safari 2, but if you've been using the beta of Safari 3 you won't notice any difference. Except that sometimes safari crashes if you try and skip ahead too far on a still loading youtube video. New mail is nice with it's new features. The new camera features (in photobooth/iChat) are awesomely cool. I've tried spaces a bit and I'm not overly fussed with it, but then I wasn't overly fussed with the same functionality in gnome/kde/X11 5 years ago. I think it could be good if you got used to using it but my motto has always been "If you need more screen real-estate, you need more monitors" (or at least bigger ones). Stacks are cool and useful.

General problems - Sometimes when my computer goes to sleep and I wake it up again clicking the buttons on my bluetooth mighty mouse don't work any more and I have to switch off the mouse and switch it back on again. And sometimes the dock disappears after waking the computer from sleep so I have to kill the dock process (It restarts automatically, that's a nice touch).

Obviously this isn't a very in depth review as I haven't been using it long but here is my verdict. Worth Getting - But if you can't handle your computer not working flawlessly 100% of the time maybe wait for the 10.5.1 update. (The worst you'll ever have to do is restart an application or kill the Dock process and it will be all good, (Unlike Windows Vista which blue screened on my a couple of hours ago causing a reboot)). If you can handle it working flawlessly 99.5% of the time then go for it.

Did I mention the box it comes in is awesome?

OK so I know you've all been hanging out for my review of Leopard. Here it is.

Holy shit it's freaking awesome. It's all new and shiny, with new pictures. Aww man I could just sit here and look at it and play with it for hours. And that's just the box!! I haven't even got around to installing it. If you haven't seen the box for Leopard do yourself a favour and go to a mac shop and look at it. Seriously I'm not kidding. Coolest. Box. Ever.

I'll probably get around to installing it tomorrow. Maybe. If i'm not out saving the world again or something. Sit tight.

So I was chillin' in my room this evening pondering the very essence of life and in my state of semi-enlightenment my mind briefly flicked to a thought. Perhaps One wasn't the loneliest number that you'll ever do. I pondered on this thought for a time until I realised that external input would be required to solving this mystery. So I did what any person who was truly seeking answers would do, I went to Yahoo!Xtra Answers and did a search to see if any other semi-enlightened being had pondered the same question as I. I was in luck and upon reading the answer achieved true enlightenment. I will now share this gift of knowledge with you.

OK before I start my rant I know I've been away for a week and y'all been hanging out for some of my awesomeness, but suck it up, I was busy.

Now for my lengthy rant.

Ignorance is bliss, we all know that. What isn't bliss is making uniformed comments when you're ignorant of the facts. If you are ever in a discussion/argument and you go to start a sentence with "I don't know much about X, but..." or "I haven't read any of the studies on X, but I'm sure..." then stop and punch yourself in the face.
